July 12, 2013 - The next Maryland-DC QSO Party (MDC QSO) is scheduled during the weekend of August 10-11, 2013. This QSO party occurs over two distinct periods: Saturday, August 10th from 12pm until 12am [EDT] and Sunday, August 11th from 12pm until 8:00pm for a total of twenty hours of operating time. There are four operating categories (Club, Standard, Mobile and QRP) with three endorsements (YL, Youth and VHF/UHF Only). Operating modes include Phone, CW and Digital and twenty-five bonus points may be claimed for a single contact with club station W3VPR (Anne Arundel Amateur Radio Club).
Field Day 2013 was a bust due to circumstances beyond my control, so I hope to use the MDC QSO Party to give my portable gear a whirl. I understand this event encourages some conversation - more than just making an exchange. Maryland does not "count" as a state in this QSO Party. rather, the focusis to contact as many counties as possible. The rules require contacts DC snd inividual counties, while the endorsements promote excellent opportunities to introduce youth and new hams to the hobby. More >>>
